At the top of this temple in Uxmal is a small structure that also represents the face of the rain god Chaac (sounds like “Chuck”). When you live in an area without rivers rain is very important. They would sacrifice people by throwing them in the local cenote. When the water was fouled and they came down with disease they would assume the city had angered Chaac and would move elsewhere.
