After the great pyramid of Chichen Itza, the second most iconic building is probably the observatory (El Caracol) used during the first period when the Mayan’s inhabited Chichen Itza. It was built shortly after 900 A.D.

Fantastic photo! My husband and his family arrived late at Chichen Itza and actually scaled the fence so that they could tour the site. They figured they had come all that way and they weren’t going to miss. Big story in family lore.

What a great photo– Is it really so quiet and out of the way? It definitely has a spiritual feel to it.

Definitely a beautiful photo! We have not yet been to Chichen Itza but it is definitely on our list of places we want to visit. I expected that the area would be crawling with tourists – how did you manage to get a photo without any people in it?
